Community Living Supports

Information about Community Living Supports.

What Are Community Living Supports?

Community Living Supports (CLS) is generally part of Michigan's behavioral health and developmental-disability service system. CLS can help eligible individuals with serious mental illness or developmental disabilities live more independently and participate in their community.

CLS is NOT simply another name for Home Help. Eligibility, authorization, and service design depend upon the individual's behavioral-health eligibility and individualized plan.

What Supports May Be Involved?

Depending upon the individual's authorized plan, CLS supports can involve:

  • Activities of daily living
  • Personal hygiene
  • Household tasks
  • Skill development
  • Community participation
  • Independence
  • Socialization
  • Other individually authorized supports

How Are CLS Services Coordinated?

Services are typically coordinated through the appropriate Community Mental Health Services Program (CMHSP) or behavioral-health system. The individual's eligibility and service plan are determined by that system.

Program information can change. Eligibility, services, and authorization are determined by the applicable government agency, health plan, or administering organization.
