Veterans Programs

Information about VA Home Care programs.

VA Home & Community-Based Care Programs

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has several home and community-based care options for eligible Veterans. VA eligibility and program availability vary based on the Veteran's service history, service-connected conditions, and other factors.

Veteran-Directed Care

Veteran-Directed Care may provide eligible Veterans with a consumer-directed budget for home and community-based services. Depending upon VA eligibility, local availability, and the approved spending plan, a Veteran or representative may be able to hire workers — potentially including certain family members or neighbors. Examples of support may include help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, shopping, and meal-related needs.

Homemaker / Home Health Aide

The VA may authorize trained aides to assist eligible Veterans with daily activities in the home. Authorization and scope depend on the Veteran's VA clinical and social-work assessment.
